Little Drops, Big Journeys! The Arundel Class Learns Where Our Water Comes From
1At Windsor International School, learning is always hands-on, meaningful, and filled with curiosity — and this week the Arundel Class continued their exciting inquiry into water systems.
Our young learners have been exploring a big question:
How does rain become the water we drink every day?
☁️ From Clouds to Rain – A Condensation Demo
To understand how rain forms, the Arundel children observed a simple but powerful experiment.
Using a sponge to represent a cloud, we slowly added drops of water. The children watched closely as the “cloud” filled up… and then suddenly began to drip — just like rain falling from the sky!
You could hear the excitement:
“It’s raining!”
“The cloud is too full!”
This visual, tactile experience helped make an abstract science concept concrete and easy to understand.
🧠 Sequencing the Water Journey
Next, students worked together to organize picture cards showing the journey of water:
Rain → Ground → River → Cleaning → Home
First, they collaborated as a whole team, discussing and reasoning through each step. Then, to deepen their understanding, they repeated the task independently and in small groups.
This activity supported:

The Arundel Class showed wonderful cooperation, helping one another and confidently explaining their ideas.
🏃♂️💦 Learning Through Movement – Water Obstacle Course
To bring the concept to life, we finished with a fun water system obstacle course!
At each station, children had to place the sequence cards in the correct order before moving on. By combining physical movement with thinking tasks, students reinforced their learning in an active and joyful way.

🌍 Growing Curious Thinkers
Through these experiences, the Arundel Class is beginning to understand that water doesn’t simply come from a tap — it travels through an important system that connects nature, science, and our daily lives.

雲から雨へ ― 凝結の実験
雨がどのようにして降るのかを理解するために、アランデルクラスの子どもたちは、シンプルでありながらとても効果的な実験を観察しました。
雲をスポンジに見立て、少しずつ水を加えていきました。子どもたちは、「雲」が水でいっぱいになり、やがてポタポタと水が落ち始める様子をじっと見つめていました。それはまるで、空から雨が降り始める瞬間のようでした。
子どもたちからは、こんな声が聞こえてきました。
「雨が降ってきた！」
「雲がいっぱいになったよ！」
このように、目で見て触れて感じる体験を通して、目に見えない科学の概念を、子どもたちにとって分かりやすく、身近なものとして理解することができました。
水の旅の順番を考えよう
次に、子どもたちは水の旅の流れを示した絵カードを使って、順番に並べる活動に取り組みました。
雨 → 地面 → 川 → 浄水 → 家
まずはクラス全体で協力しながら、それぞれの順番について話し合い、「なぜこの順番になるのか」を考えました。その後、理解をさらに深めるために、個人や小グループでも同じ活動に取り組みました。
この活動を通して、子どもたちは以下の力を育みました：
・論理的思考力
・コミュニケーション能力
・チームワーク
・原因と結果の理解
アランデルクラスの子どもたちは、お互いに助け合いながら、自分の考えを自信を持って伝える姿を見せてくれました。素晴らしい協力と主体的な学びの姿が見られました。
🏃♂️💦 体を動かしながら学ぶ
学びをさらに深めるために、最後は楽しい「水のシステム障害物コース」に挑戦しました！
それぞれのステーションで、子どもたちは順番カードを正しい流れに並べてから次の場所へ進みました。体を動かす活動と考える課題を組み合わせることで、子どもたちは楽しみながら、より深く学びを定着させることができました。
Windsorでは、子どもたちは次のような体験を通して、最もよく学ぶと考えています：

🌍 探究する心を育てる
これらの体験を通して、アランデルクラスの子どもたちは、水は単に蛇口から出てくるものではなく、自然・科学・そして私たちの日常生活をつなぐ大切なシステムの中を旅していることを理解し始めています。
そして何より、子どもたちは次のような大切な力を育んでいます：
・好奇心
・批判的思考力
・協働する力
・環境への意識
このユニットを通して見られた、子どもたちの思いやりのある問いかけ、協力する姿、そして学びへの意欲を、私たちはとても誇りに思っています。
これからも水のシステムについての探究を続けていきます。学びと、そして楽しい発見の時間は、まだまだ続きます！ 💙
